Dubai's innovation, global leadership and architectural superiority bounce from the world's tallest structure and reflect off of visually stunning water holes and challenging lush fairways. Attracting the golf industry's finest, including Tiger Woods, Greg Norman, Vijay Singh, Trent Jones and Sergio Garcia, to create signature name-sake courses in the once barren desert land, Dubai is quickly becoming the leading international golf destination.

Renowned for making the unimaginable a reality, Dubai offers world-class championship courses - wrapped by sand dunes and statuesque towers - defying all boundaries, taking both the leisure and professional golf experience to new heights.

Dubai currently has eight operating golf courses, fully equipped with state-of-the-art technology, air-conditioned golf carts, and clubhouses that challenge some of the world's architectural wonders.

On schedule to be completed by late 2009 is the highly-anticipated first self-designed course by golf legend, Tiger Woods. Tiger Woods Dubai will encompass a 7,800 yard, par 72, 18-hole championship course named Al-Ruwaya, with dramatic elevations, lush landscaping, stunning water features and an overall design that will challenge and entertain golfers of all playing abilities.

Partnering with Tatweer, a Dubai government-owned real estate enterprise, the overall Tiger Woods Dubai golf project will be built on a 55 million square feet (5.1 million square meters) of desert land and will feature a state-of-the-art golf academy, a luxury boutique hotel for international visitors, and luxury residences including 22 palaces, 75 mansions and 100 villas for long-term guests and permanent residents.

Two of Dubai's newest courses quickly making their mark on the international golf scene include The Dunes, which opened in May 2008, and The Four Seasons Al Baudia Golf Course.

Redefining world-class golf, The Dunes, is an 18-hole signature course designed by golf's international ambassador, Ernie Els. With a long association with Dubai, playing in the region since 1993 and winning The Dubai Desert Classic on 3 occasions, Els used his personal knowledge of Dubai's landscape to create uniquely designed greens and fairways designed to throw down a true challenge for the world's best golfers. Els worked with his own design team, Ernie Els Design (EED) led by Senior Design Associate Greg Letsche, to develop a visually-stunning and challenging course.

Complementing the world-class standards of play offered at The Dunes, managed by internationally-renowned company, Troon Golf, is the Butch Harmon School of Golf which offers one-on-one instruction and group courses for players of all ages and skill levels – perfect for international leisure and business travelers seeking to test and improve their talents.

Making Golf History in Dubai

Later this year, the 2008 PGA tournament season will end with the inaugural Dubai World Championship, the world's richest tournament with a record-breaking purse of $10 Million, November 19-22. This championship will take place at one Dubai's newest golf properties, the Earth Course at Jumeirah Estates Golf Resorts, designed by golf legend Greg Norman.

Inspired by the natural elements of Fire, Earth, Water and Wind, Jumeirah Golf Estates draws on the remarkable talents of some of the game's most famous names: Greg Norman, the 'Great White Shark'; former world champion Vijay Singh; European Ryder Cup hero Sergio Garcia; and the father of modern course design, the legendary Pete Dye.

To be held annually, the tournament will be open to the leading 60 players on the 'Race to Dubai', formally the European Order of Merit - with players also being given the opportunity to compete for an additional $10 million bonus fund.

In 2009, Dubai will become the European Tour's international headquarters, with the organization based at and operated from a purpose-built facility within Jumeirah Golf Estates.

Leading women's golf champion, Annika Sorenstam, also recognizes Dubai beauteous golf landscape, and has chosen to play the last tournament of her professional career this December at the Dubai Ladies Masters – a true testament to Dubai's reputation for one-in-a-life-time opportunities.

The Dubai Ladies Masters will be held at the Emirates Golf Club, most recognized on the PGA golf circuit for hosting the Dubai Desert Classic. With its signature canopied Bedouin-style club houses, the Emirates Golf Club, managed by Dubai Golf, boasts two of the world's finest courses, Majlis and Wadi, where international visitors are joined by golf sensations and celebrities.

Dubai Golf manages three of Dubai's most unique and internationally renowned golf courses -

Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club and Emirates Golf Club's Majlis and Wadi by Faldo courses, allowing golfers of all levels to enjoy the distinct and different challenges presented by each of the championship standard courses. Dubai Golf is a leader in golf related services, operating International Golf & Leisure Services and an online tee time booking facility.
