A
popular stop for visitors to Coastal
Georgia, Oleander is
a Dick Wilson masterpiece crafted
around an engaging fresh water lake.
Built on the edge of the Atlantic,
cool ocean breezes often come into
play at Oleander. A long-time favorite
of golfers on Jekyll Island, Oleander
is a popular tournament course, having
hosted state high school championships
and U.S. Kids Golf World Championships.
Isolated in a wonderfully natural
setting where only deer, wood storks,
alligators and osprey are your gallery,
Oleander provides a stern test for
accomplished golfers and just the
right amount of challenges for average
players.
At
just over 6,400 yards from the back
tees, Indian Mound is the shortest
of the Jekyll Island courses. Yet
don't mistake lack of distance for
ease of play. Nestled among a scenic
forest, this classic Joe Lee design
demands accuracy and solid shot making.
With five lakes to navigate throughout
the layout, Indian Mound is a test
not only of a golfers' skill, but
also their nerves. In addition to
the water hazards, the course features
strategic bunkering that again will
test accuracy on almost every hole.
Built in 1897, Great Dunes offers
an historical experience right on
the shores of the Atlantic Ocean.
Though only a nine-hole layout, Great
Dunes is a superb challenge with its
classic links style layout featuring
small greens. To score well at Great
Dunes, you better bring your short
game, because the demands around the
greens are significant. With such
an impressive lineup of golf to choose
from, the question isn't whether to
play at Jekyll Island Golf Club, but
which courses to play. So make it
easy on yourself and play them all.
