For most of us, sing'n the blues happens a lot on the golf course. Play'n the blues… well for most of us that is just out of the question, but listen'n to the blues is a whole other story. If you enjoy both golf and blues music, you need to plan to get down to the Mississippi Delta this spring for the first ever Golf & Blues Tournament in Tunica Mississippi.

April 25 – May 1, 2010 are the dates for this tournament, with participants enjoying the luxury of the Harrah's Tunica Resort (formerly the Grand Casino). Tournament mornings will begin with breakfast at Paula Deen's Buffet. Paula Deen, for those who don't know, is an Emmy Award winning personality from the Food Network - so you know it's gonna be good.

During the six-night stay, each participant will play four rounds of fun tournament golf along with various goodies daily. Although there are two days without any golf planned, event organizers have made sure there will be lots to do during the ‘down' time.

On one of the days, everyone will be taking a short drive up to Memphis for a visit to Graceland to check out where the "King" lived, followed by an evening of partying on the infamous Beale Street. Another day's events involve a short trek south to Clarksdale, deep into blues country for a tour of the Delta Blues Museum, dinner at the Hopson Commissary (included) and an evening of rock'n entertainment with Stan Street at Morgan Freeman's Ground Zero Blues Club.

All the courses involved in the tournament play are in Tunica, and are less than 5 minutes from the Harrah's Casino. In fact, The Links at Cottonwoods is on the Harrah's property.

This 18-hole Hale Irwin-designed championship course has a Scottish links feel with gentle rolling fairways. The course has recently undergone some renovations and plays to 7,200 yards with a slope rating of 119. Don't be followed by the slope rating as in its routing Irwin has created a few risk reward holes that will come and bit you if you're not careful. The 370 yard 5th tempts you to bite off more than you can chew, beware the water along the right doubles or more are common here. Fifteen through 17 can be a troublesome threesome unless you are on your game. No time for demons or butterflies on the stretch.

"Water, water everywhere" is the theme for Tunica National, Tunica's newest - and arguably the finest - golf facility featuring an exciting 7,210-yard, par 72 championship layout designed by renowned PGA Tour Player and architect Mark McCumber and one of the finest practice facilities around. You will find water (hopefully you won't) on pretty much every hole on the course along with many strategically place bunkers placed, as Robin Williams would say, "Just to f--- with your ball." The saving grace here is that the landing areas off the tee are generous, but if you are having a bad day here it could become a really bad day! To help those new to the course every cart comes with Global Positioning System technology.

Golf course architect Clyde Johnston describes his River Bend Links Course as "a field of dunes." Clyde transformed this cotton field into a marvelous Scottish links style course. Built next to the Mississippi River, animals still inhabit the area and during the round you may see deer, fox, or wild turkey. The name alone conjures up images of wind-swept treeless terrain, and that is exactly what River Bend Links is. This par 72, 6,900-yard masterpiece features lakes, sand and grass bunkers and strategically placed mounds. You will love the 9th and 18th holes, exceptional holes to finish off each nine.

Tunica, Mississippi – home base for the Golf & Blues Tournament - is the 3rd largest gaming destination in America after Las Vegas and Atlantic City. With nine casinos, over 6,000 hotel rooms, more than 50 restaurants, and exciting headliner entertainment, it's easy to see why Tunica has become one of the nation's hottest destinations.

Mississippi Blues Trail Marker

The famous Mississippi Blues Trail begins on Hwy 61, just outside the Tunica Convention & Visitors Bureau office with a Blues Trail Marker dedicated to the America's Blues Highway. After seeing the marker, make sure that you stop into the Visitors Center to pick information on the area. You can also their website www.tunicatravel.com

Clarksdale - in the heart of the Mississippi Delta Region - is home to at least three Blues Trail Markers. No wonder, just look at who called this place home during the 1920's, 1930's and 1940's; Charlie Patton, Bukka White, Robert Johnson, Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker and Ike Turner, to name just a few.

You will no doubt love the Delta Blues Museum, and there is where you will have a chance to see the intersection of Highways 61 and 49 – known as ‘The Crossroads." Apparently some guy sold his soul to the devil here, but it will be up to you to find out about this dubious deal. A good place to make an inquiry about this while having some lunch would be on that same corner where you will find the legendary Abe's Diner and some of the finest pulled pork in the south. To learn more about Clarksdale visit www.clarksdaletourism.com

You are going to love this golf and blues experience, and the best part is that for golfers it is only $599.00 and non golfers $399. The field is limited to 128 players so CLICK HERE to find out more details itinerary and more.
