No doubt that everyone has heard of the Gulf oil spill and although the visible effects of the spill on shore in Mississippi were minimal at best it has had a very serious affect on the residents, in particular those involved in the Fishing Industry. Everything is pretty much back to normal these days and this is just one small way in which we golfers can all help out.
Sunglasses and sunscreen will be your first order of business before you relax with your first cocktail as you ponder your upcoming round. Golfers have been visiting the Gulf Coast since the early 1900's and over the past 15 years or so some of the greatest designers in golf; they include Fazio, Pate, Nicklaus, Palmer, and Davis Love III. A couple of our favorite Stay & Play options on the coast are www.gulfcoastresortrentals.com for those looking for condo style accommodations or the IP Casino Resort www.ipbiloxi.com
What else awaits you are 26 miles of scenic shoreline that includes 26 miles of manicured white sand beach with water activities to suit any fancy. Land lovers can certainly take advantage of the Canadian dollar's strength be it at the mall or in a refreshment stand of choice sipping on a $2 happy hour pint. Spas, casinos, museums and historical sites are all yours for the taking and when you have built up that hunger there are restaurants a plenty to satisfy any pallet. www.gulfcoast.org
Tunica Mississippi awaits you at the north end of the State. Approximately 45 minutes south of the Memphis airport, its nine casino's have turned this popular area into the Casino Capital of the South.
With the casino industry came growth and a change to the landscape that included substantial growth immediately south of Memphis in the regions of Southaven and Olive Branch. To put it into perspective think of what Mississauga means to Toronto. All the modern conveniences, hotels, restaurants, shopping, and of course golf! www.sodesoto.com
But back in the delta things move at a much slower pace! The Mississippi Delta is a true slice of Americana and there is a reason why people from all over the world come to visit. The cotton fields are still in evidence and the sounds of famous blues musicians past and present resonate in the juke joints throughout the Delta. A visit to the Delta would not be complete without a stop at Clarksdale, about 1 hour directly south of Tunica. You will come to the Crossroads, the meeting point of highways 49 & 61 where the legendary Robert Thompson sold his soul to the devil. This point can be considered the gateway to the city and you won't find a better meal of pulled pork than right on that corner at Abe's. Better plan to stay in Clarksdale for at least one night because your visit would not be complete without an evening in Morgan Freeman's Blues Club – Ground Zero. I can pretty much guarantee you that no one should be driving anywhere! |
