With customized Golf & Spa packages available,
Santee has become a 'go to' destination for Canadians

By TIM BAINES

Santee may be a small town of less than 800 fine southern folks, but it continues to offer plenty of bang for the buck for golfers... And believe it or not it just keeps on getting better.

For years Santee has been known as a retreat for groups of guys looking for not only well-priced golf, but the "other things," like good food and good clean accommodations. Santee always delivered the goods. Now, with an eye to add more to the agenda, Santee recently began customized packaging of spa options. You can get massage and body treatments, manicures, pedicures and facials ... it's definitely a perk, especially for couples who want more than just golf. Guests, veteran and new, can enjoy the Bella Grace Day Spa and Salon as a way to relax and unwind upon arrival or after a challenging golf round. A complete list of services and prices is available HERE.

"There are a lot of couples coming down and some were asking for this," says Golf Santee's Brock Hannay. There are some super deals available right now at Golf Santee.

Until Nov. 14, you can stay four nights at Quality Inn & Suites, based on double occupancy; enjoy the full country breakfast daily; play five rounds of golf with 18-hole cart each day (two rounds at Santee National, one at Wyboo GC, one at Lake Marion GC and one at Orangeburg Country Club) for
$350 US per person, including tax. You can get loosened up for all that activity by starting off with a
Swedish Relaxation massage for an additional $35.
If price is a factor, it's hard to beat the deals that can be had so pack up your golf bag and head to Santee, southwest of Myrtle Beach, right on I-95 in South Carolina's low country.

If fishing is your hook you are also in the right place. Santee sits on the south shore of Lake Marion, one of the largest freshwater lakes in South Carolina. Adjoining it is Lake Moultrie and both are well known for their world class fishing. In fact several fish records have been set, including whopping channel catfish and 50 plus pound striped bass. It is no wonder that with so much to do, the area has become a haven and heaven for many Canadians, who keep going back year after year.

"We¹d love to have all of our northern neighbours to come share in the sunshine," said Hannay. Why have Canadians taken such a shine to the area? "You mean, besides the nice weather?" asked Mary Shriner, the Executive Director for Regional Tourism in the area. "Really, the biggest thing is the weather. What you see is what you get. It is beautiful in October, November and into December. Most importantly the golf courses are nice and green all winter. There is always stuff going on in the area, festivals, that kind of thing. And Charleston and Columbia are within an hour." Oh, and there is the price. "When you have to compete against places like Myrtle Beach and Charleston, you have to have good prices. People keep coming back here because they know that they get bang for their buck here.

Canadians really seem to understand how much the people here appreciate them coming. We treat them right." Santee goes by the "T" rule, and there it's actually the "tee" rule; you can bet you will get Playabilitee, Hospitalitee, Serenitee, Varietee and Tranquilitee.
