The Emirates Golf Club is an experience to add to your life list. Located 10 minutes from Jumeirah Beach in Dubai, the club is comprised of two award winning 18-hole Championship courses, the Wadi and the Majlis, along with additional amenities and a level of service that has become synonymous with the “City of Gold” including: restaurants, bars, sports and leisure facilities, plus space for hosting meetings, conferences and special events.

The Emirates Golf Club created by Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum opened in 1988 as the first all-grass championship golf course in the Gulf Region, an accomplishment that earned the club the nickname “The Desert Miracle.” The playing handicap for these courses is 28 for men and 45 for ladies.

At first, the Majlis was the only course at the Emirates Golf Club. Opened in 1988, it was named after the Arabic “meeting place.” The course is surrounded by Dubai’s remarkable skyscrapers and is world renowned for its challenging design. One of the course’s most challenging holes know to intimidate even the professional players is the par 4, dogleg 8th Hole. The manmade lakes, local flora and fauna, and the sand masses surrounding each hole make this a truly authentic desert course.

Amidst the growth of Dubai, the expansion of the Emirates Golf Club was a natural next step, so seven years after The Majlis was introduced to the world, a second course, The Wadi came to life in 1996. The word “Wadi” translated from Arabic means “valley,” a suitable name for a course with a yardage of 7,328 dominated by a spectacularly landscaped valley running the length of the course. The Course was redesigned in 2005 by six-time PGA major winner Nick Faldo and subsequently opened in 2006 as the renamed “The Faldo.” A par-73 course it is often called a “thinker’s course” because of the strategies required for a victorious end of the game. Faldo’s trademark tees and bunkers have combined with the naturally rugged terrain to create a unique golfing experience. The ‘The Faldo’ has surpassed all of its expectations and is destined to be regarded as one of the finest courses in Dubai.

The Wadi and The Majlis have features to suit both professional and weekend players alike. The Peter Cowen Golf Academy, run by one of the best coaches in Europe, offers classes for a variety of experience levels ranging from beginner to advanced creating a one-of-a-kind environment for players who want to improve their golfing skills.

Beyond the exquisite golf courses the Emirates Golf Club is a world of its own: sports facilities, restaurants, golf classes, a pro shop, bars and a VIP lounge spreading on more than 7,100 yards make the club a traveler’s seemingly unlimited playground. Among the sports facilities are six tennis courts, two squash courts, football pitches, and a swimming pool with a private bar. Swimming coaches are also available to provide the high-quality service we have already grown accustomed with when in Dubai. The clubhouse, built to resemble the Bedouin tents that are now easily recognizable images of Dubai, create the perfect backdrop for an international golf getaway experience that is beyond compare. This makes the Emirates Golf Club one of the world’s wonders that you have to see to believe.

In 2005, as the traditional home of the European PGA Tour Event the Dubai Desert Classic, the Emirates Golf Club was recognized as a Top 100 Golf Course outside North America by Golf Digest. After 21 years the Emirates Golf Club is stronger than ever. The global appreciation of the club remains in 2009 as well: on February 4th, the Emirates Golf Club won the award for Best Golf Club of the Year Overall in the Region and the award for the Best Order of Merit Event for the Emirates Amateur Open at the Middle East Golfer Awards.

Similar to so many other parts of Dubai, the Emirates Golf Club is one of those things that must be seen in order to be appreciated to its full extent, as its eccentricity makes it hard to describe. Golf adds even more luxury and class to a land where anything is possible, to a land where palm tree-shaped islands constitute the 8th wonder of the world and where the financial market is the secondary market for trading securities and bonds.

What is behind the club’s high aspirations? Easily answered, the club aims to maintain the reputation for award-winning service and facilities. In addition to sports and recreation the fine dinning award-winning restaurant Le Classique is one of the best in the area. At Le Classique the award-winning chef, named “Best Chef in Dubai” in both 2004 and 2007, prepares his exquisite French cuisine for guests after a long day.
