2009 Marks Opening of Jumeriah Golf Estates and
Al Ruwaya by Tiger Woods Dubai

Recognized as one of the fastest rising stars on the international golf circuit, Dubai continues to break boundaries and attract top industry professionals with its golf innovation, service, and design. In 2009, Dubai will complete two ground breaking golf projects, including the highly anticipated four-course Jumeirah Golf Estates and Tiger Woods first self-designed property, Al Ruwaya Golf Club – solidifying Dubai's place as a world-class golf destination.

Jumeirah Golf Estates is destined to be one of the world's premier golf course communities with four PGA Championship courses.

Inspired by the natural elements of Fire, Earth, Wind and Water, Jumeirah Golf Estates draws on the remarkable talents of some of the game's most famous names: Greg Norman, the ‘Great White Shark'; former world champion, Vijay Singh; European Ryder Cup hero Sergio Garcia; and "the father of modern course design", Pete Dye.

Designed by golf legend Greg Norman, the Fire Course will be the first of Norman's two Eco-Signature courses at Jumeirah Golf Estates – and his first Eco-Signature property in the world. Designed to exist in harmony with the natural desert landscape, Fire will no doubt prove a tough challenge for golfers of all abilities.

The Fire course's tees have been placed to provide variety, with length, direction and elevation constantly changing throughout the course. The use of existing natural features and topography will allow for a unique perspective from each tee, increasing both interest and challenge.

The second of Greg Norman's two Eco-Signature courses, the Earth Course, is inspired by the great parkland courses of Europe and North America. Incorporating lush, garden-like vegetation and traditional fast-flowing water features, Earth's design will enhance the already picturesque landscape and offer panoramic vistas of the entire course.

Earth will use bunker placement and a myriad of trees to guide players, while at the same time protecting the ideal line. Broad, rolling fairways will be broken on several holes by daunting water features, strategically positioned to capture shots that stray from the fairways and greens.

Vijay Singh is behind the design of the Water Course. This course will wind through naturally vegetated dune troughs, following ribbons of wetland. The dunes themselves will be vegetated with native salt-tolerant tall grasses and sedges, for a natural look, and oasis and pond areas will be fringed with palm trees. This approach is unique in Dubai, and will result in a challenging, traditional course that is dramatic in both appearance and feel.

A variety of teeing options allows for a wide range of course lengths, from 7,500 yards down to less than 5,000. Greens are open in the front but pin placements are closely guarded. The hazards, many of which are water hazards, have been strategically placed to challenge longer hitters, while allowing shorter hitters a little more space.

The Wind Course takes golf back to its most elemental roots, with a traditional course in which the power and energy of the wind plays a core role. This course is a world first combining the creative forces of golf greats Sergio Garcia, Greg Norman, and Pete Dye, a giant of golf design.

Wind is Sergio Garcia's first design project, the result of a partnership unique in the history of golf course design. Sergio's excitement and raw energy, Pete Dye's experience and wisdom and Greg Norman's power and skill converge to ensure that Wind will be among the world's most challenging and satisfying courses.

With a varied range of teeing options, Wind promises to pose a unique challenge to golfers of every skill level. Tight fairways cushioned between rolling dunes allow little room for error, with approach shots to well-protected sloping greens ensuring that precision is the key to unlocking the vast rewards of this course. The course is characterized by undulating fairways, thick rough, pot bunkers, and the swirling patterns of the wind – in a design reminiscent of where golf started.

The Tiger Woods Dubai is an exclusive golf community development featuring a 7,800 yard, par 72, 18-hole championship Al Ruwaya Golf Course, the world's first golf course to be designed by Tiger Woods Design.

Tiger Woods, the world's number one golfer and Chairman of Tiger Woods Design, said: "It's exciting to see my first ever golf course design coming to life. My vision, and the work of my design company, is being realized."

Embodying Tiger Woods' vision of creating a spectacular and challenging golf course, Al Ruwaya spans over 13 million square feet and feature dramatic elevation changes and lush landscaping with over 11,000 trees and 140,000 shrubs. The course also boasts stunning water features, including 3.3 million square feet of lakes and an overall design that will challenge and entertain golfers of all playing abilities.

Located at Dubailand, the landmark leisure, tourism and entertainment destination, The Tiger Woods Dubai is fast taking shape as an exclusive golf community encompassing 22 palaces, 75 mansions, and 100 luxury villas and community service facilities. The Al Ruwaya Golf Course is slated to tee off its first match in Fall 2009.

Dubai is truly a leader in golf innovation and continues to prove itself as a world-class competitor. Golf in Dubai is not just about the sport – it is about the experience, challenge and beauty courses like the Jumeirah Golf Estates and the Tiger Woods Dubai golf course offers golf travelers from across the globe.
