If you’re an avid golfer or someone who is looking to take up the game of golf, I have one of the best kept secrets to fulfill all your golfing and traveling desires. Twelve years ago, one of the top golf instructors in Europe, Ian Godleman started a company called Five Star Plus Golf Academies. His goal was to build golf schools at some of the finest resorts in the World, while being able to accommodate the needs of both the high handicap and elite player.
In 1995, Five Star Plus Golf Academies chose the Sheraton Pine Cliffs Resort in the Algarve, Portugal as its main headquarters, and has never looked back. Five Star Plus is now running at five Resorts world wide and is located in such countries as Portugal, Spain, Mauritius, South Africa, and Dubai.
Two years ago, I
left Florida and
one of the most
prestigious golf
academies in the
world, the David
Leadbtter Golf
Academy at
Champions Gate
in Orlando, Florida.
I was setting sail
across the Atlantic
to the Algarve in
Portugal to see
what Ian Godleman
and Five Star Plus
Golf Academies
was all about.
When I arrived, it
was like nothing I had ever seen before! The Resort was breathtaking and golf was everywhere. It was clear to me that I was at one of the best golf training facilities in the world. Three tiered grass/matt driving range, with two putting greens and two chipping/bunker greens. The range itself even has regulation sized putting surfaces to use as targets.
As I went deeper into the resort, I
came across the Pine Cliffs 9 hole
Golf Course. Now, I know what
you might be thinking “only 9
holes” but nothing could ever be
more misleading. The golf course
is fantastic and is a perfect
practice ground to work on your
lessons from the weekly golf
clinics. Outside the Sheraton
gates there are over 15 golf
courses within a 45 drive to
test your golfing desires. The
9th hole is world famous for its
tee deck that sits on top of the
cliffs over looking the Atlantic
Ocean! It is a must see for the
golf enthusiast.
As the holiday continually got
better, I realized that Five Star
Plus Golf Academies not only had
one of the best instructional
teams in Europe it also had
unbeatable deals, and prices that
no other company could offer. For
a mere 375E a person, your package included accommodation, buffet breakfast, two evening meals, 18 holes of golf daily, unlimited range balls, daily pull cart, entrance into golf competition and introduction into the golf clinics. Even after all that, Five Star Plus will throw in a daily happy hour (2 for 1 drinks), a discounted lunch special and a special evening meal offer including unlimited drinks.
One thing I would like to add is
that this trip is not just for
golfers. Anyone can come on
these deals. All prices are not
including the golf clinics. If you
would like to take part in daily
golf clinics for 2 hours every
morning, they will only run an
additional 95e a person. I found
that the trip consisted of many
different types of vacationers.
There were lots of golf nuts, but
also lots of families who only
the husband or wife would take
part in the golf clinics. It really is
a win-win situation for all.
In 2008, I will be heading back to
work with Ian Godleman and Five
Star Plus Golf Academies, and
will get to visit some of the
greatest golf destinations in the
world. I recommend that you
come
and see us, and have the most unforgettable holiday of your life.
